Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, demons, and dark forces expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to undertake their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might look unsuited, but the events of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

First, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.

The traitor then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires retribution.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their status as important members in House Halovar could assist the party enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The healer turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward Timmony in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

From episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent next week, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Seekers and Planners tables.

Fans can anticipate finding out which players will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
