Major Russian Attacks Cut Power Across Kyiv

Power facilities targeted in Ukraine
The country's power facilities have faced increased attacks in recent weeks

Overnight, Russian missile and drone strikes have led to electricity outages in large parts of Ukraine's capital, the Ukrainian capital.

Nine people were hurt while local people in eastern neighborhoods were left without electricity and encountered disruption to drinking water, per reports from city officials.

At the same time, a minor was killed in a distinct aerial attack in the southeastern region in the country's south-east, based on information from area administrators.

Moscow has escalated assaults on power infrastructure over recent weeks, while the country's government has demanded "substantial measures" from international partners to apply pressure on Moscow.

"The necessity is not symbolic gestures but decisive action - from the America, the EU and the major economies - in providing defensive weapons and implementing penalties," he wrote in a social media post.

Authorities reported that 450 drones and more than 30 projectiles attacked Ukraine's energy infrastructure, characterizing such attacks as "premeditated" and against "essential services" as the weather cools.

The energy minister said Russia was "inflicting a massive strike" and repair crews were working to repair systems.

A wave of strikes hit electrical systems and residential structures in Kyiv.

Several of the people wounded in the strikes on the city have been taken to hospital, per statements from city authorities.

Area administrators said the city experienced heavy assaults throughout the evening. A young boy was killed and multiple civilians were hurt.

The strikes succeed periods of bombing campaigns in the region, parts of which remain under the control of Russian forces.

The entire country is in a state of readiness for advanced weapon attacks, which are more difficult to spot.

Government officials told the media that Moscow was deliberately attempting to destroy the electrical infrastructure, with assaults already impacting fuel infrastructure.

Authorities confirmed utility staff and government agencies were preparing for additional strikes.
